To reach the enormous voltages his wireless dreams demanded, Tesla needed a better coil. In this transformer patent he winds the coil as a flat spiral, a shape meant to reach very high voltages while keeping the windings safely insulated from each other. It's the heart of the machinery behind everything else in this collection.
