A wireless message sent on one frequency can be heard by anyone tuned to it. Tesla's fix was to use several at once: the receiver responds only when every one of its tuned circuits is triggered together, so a stray signal does nothing. It's an early idea for keeping wireless messages private, from the first years of radio.
